Braddock, Pennsylvania was a thriving steel town. Andrew Carnegie built his first mill there. For generations, good jobs were plentiful. But as the American steel industry suffered, so did Braddock. It's population dropped from about 20,000 to just 2,800 today.
The town's young mayor, John Fetterman, believes we need to overhaul our nation's economy if we're going to revitalize towns like Braddock. He believes that transformation starts with a cap on carbon pollution to push investment into new energy industries -- creating demand for steel for windmills, energy efficient windows, and thousands of other products made in America.
Fetterman says he’s participating in this campaign without compensation of any kind, “because I believe it’s a powerful solution to both environmental and economic problems.” We sat down with Fetterman on April 22, the day he testified before Congress.
